The short version · plain language
Prospectus is free for students. Use it honestly, keep your login safe, and the information you give us truthful.
We match you to programmes, funding and careers — but we don't run admissions or award funding ourselves, so we can't guarantee an outcome. The decision always sits with the institution or funder.
01
Who can use Prospectus
Prospectus is built for prospective and current students in South Africa, and the parents, guardians and counsellors who support them. You may use it if you can form a binding agreement under South African law.
If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must agree to these terms on your behalf and consent to your use of the platform. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle the information of minors.
02
Your account
You're responsible for your account and for keeping your password secure. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed it. You agree to give accurate information and to keep it up to date — your matches are only as good as the marks and details you enter.
One person, one account. Don't impersonate anyone or create an account on someone else's behalf without their (or their guardian's) consent.
03
What's free, what's paid
The core of Prospectus — matching, the programme index, funding discovery, the career explorer, and applying to institutions — is free for students, and we intend to keep it that way.
We may offer optional paid features (for example, advanced coaching or premium analytics). Anything paid will be clearly marked before you pay, and you'll never be charged without explicit agreement. We do not store card details ourselves; payments are handled by a regulated payment provider.
04
Acceptable use
Use Prospectus for its purpose — finding your path after school. Please don't:
- Submit false marks, documents, or identity information.
- Scrape, copy, or resell our programme or funding index.
- Attempt to break, overload, or reverse-engineer the platform.
- Use it to harass others or to post unlawful content.
- Misuse another person's information or apply on their behalf without authority.
Submitting false information to an institution or funder through Prospectus can have serious consequences for your application and may be unlawful — we cannot shield you from those.
05
Your content
The information and documents you upload remain yours. You grant us a limited licence to store and process them only to provide the service — to match you, and to route applications you choose to submit. We describe exactly how in our Privacy Policy.
06
What we do & don't guarantee
Prospectus is a matching and information platform. We work hard to keep our data accurate and our matches sound, but:
i
We do not make admission decisions or award funding. A match, fit score, or eligibility estimate is guidance — not an offer, a promise, or a guarantee of acceptance, funding, or any particular outcome.
Admission requirements, fees, deadlines and funding rules are set by institutions and funders and can change. We reconcile our index regularly, but you should always confirm critical details (especially deadlines and minimum requirements) directly with the institution before you rely on them.
07
Institutions & funders
When you apply through Prospectus, your application is governed by that institution or funder's own terms and processes once it reaches them. We pass on what you submit; we don't control how they assess it. Any agreement you enter into with them — a bursary contract, an offer of admission — is between you and them.
08
Our intellectual property
The Prospectus name, brand, design system, the structured programme and funding index, and the matching logic are ours (or our licensors'). You may use the platform for your own educational planning, but you may not copy, redistribute, or build a competing product from our content without written permission.
09
Liability
We provide Prospectus with reasonable care and skill. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for decisions made by institutions or funders. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including under the Consumer Protection Act where it applies to you.
Because the core service is free, where we are found liable our total liability is limited to the amount you have paid us (if any) in the 12 months before the claim.
10
Ending the agreement
You can close your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms or puts other users or institutions at risk — we'll tell you why where we can. When the agreement ends, the parts that should reasonably survive (intellectual property, liability, governing law) continue to apply.
11
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute. We'd always rather resolve things by talking first.
