Cookies, honestly.
We use very few cookies, and we'd rather explain them than bury you in a banner. Here's exactly what we set, why, and how to switch the optional ones off — right on this page.
We use a couple of essential cookies to keep you signed in and the site working. Everything else — analytics — is optional and off until you say yes.
No advertising cookies. No third-party trackers following you around the web. Set your preference below; it sticks on this device.
What a cookie actually is
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. It lets the site remember things between page loads — like the fact that you're signed in, or that you prefer a certain setting. "Similar technologies" (local storage, for example) do much the same job; we treat them the same way here.
Prospectus is deliberately light on cookies. We don't need to track you to do our job — we need your marks and your goals, which you give us directly.
What we set, and why
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| sb-…-auth-token | Keeps you signed in to your dashboard | Essential | Until you sign out (up to 400 days) |
| prospectus_ck_prefs, ck_analytics | Remember your cookie choices, so we don't ask again | Essential | 13 months |
| ps-mode | Remembers whether you chose light or dark display | Functional | 12 months |
| ps-rail | Remembers whether you collapsed the menu on your dashboard to icons | Functional | 12 months |
| ph_…_posthog | Usage analytics (PostHog), only after you say yes, and only for a signed-in learner who is 18 or older: which pages help and where people get stuck, linked to your account number — never your name or email — with recordings of how you move through our pages that hide every word on screen and everything you type. Signed out, nothing about you is stored: a visit is counted in memory and forgotten when you leave. Once you've answered, PostHog keeps a small marker of your answer (__ph_opt_in_out_…) in your browser. Your answer, when you're signed in, is kept with your account, so it applies on every device. Nothing at all for a signed-in learner under 18. | Analytics | 12 months |
Essential cookies can't be switched off, because the platform genuinely can't function without them (you couldn't stay signed in). Functional and analytics cookies are yours to control.

Controlling cookies in your browser
Beyond the controls above, every major browser lets you see, block, and delete cookies in its settings. If you block essential cookies entirely, parts of Prospectus — especially staying signed in — will stop working.
On a shared or public computer, signing out and clearing your browser data is the safest way to protect your profile.
Changes to this notice
If we ever add a new cookie or change what an existing one does, we'll update this notice and, where it matters, ask for your choice again. The version and date at the top always reflect what's current. For the bigger picture on your data, read our Privacy Policy.
